Wedderburn Pub Has Last Hurrah !

We played our final doubles knockout for the season and it was a great night for the twenty eight players who entered.  Loddon Darts is now officially finished for 2009 and as I have decided to take a break from my Media role this will be my final report.  You will still be well kept up to date however when Andrew Day takes over for the start of 2010.

At the quarter final stage only two teams remained undefeated, Dave Morton playing with Murray Smyth, and Barry Giles with Julie Bailey.  Both teams were looking pretty good but there were names like Montebello, Day and Sinnott still lurking, so nothing was for certain.  Gary Sinnott and Pam Collins knocked out Bob Montebello and Peter Stevenson to advance to the semi, Dave and Murray took one of Barry and Julie's lives, Robert Day and Smiley Walton took a life off Dave and Murray, and Barry and Julie stayed alive by defeating Kevin Walton and Jane Hook, giving us four different teams at the semi finals.  With the games now being cut throat for everyone, the games became more intense.  Dave and Murray fell to Gary and Pam, and in the other semi Rob and Smiley put an end to Barry and Julie's night.  The final was a corker and it looked as though Rob and Smiley were going to be too good for Gary and Pam when Gary pulled out a pretty impressive 75 peg to seal the match and the event.

2010 Season

The 2010 season looks like getting off to a great start with plenty of interest been shown already.  The season is scheduled to commence on Tuesday 2nd February and, if we maintain the current number of teams, will finish around July/August.  Licensed venues have until 12th January to nominate their teams and this can be done by contacting Robert Day on (03) 5494 7266 or Robina Little on (03) 5494 3423 to obtain a nomination form, then simply turning up at the meeting to be held at the Wedderburn Hotel on that night, 12th January.  All teams must be present at this meeting as the calendar and fixture will be discussed and the $60.00 nomination, which is your first five weeks match fees, must be paid.

Don't Fix What Isn't Broken

We had our AGM on Tuesday 24th November at the Royal Hotel, Inglewood and we had quite a roll up.  The main order of business was the election of office bearers and the members were obviously happy with the Committee as apart from Andrew Day being elected as Media & Liaison Officer, due to Gary Sinnott's resignation, and Jennifer Pettit replacing Chris Morton as a fundraiser, not much else changed.  Chris has given his job away as he wishes to devote more time to his schooling.

2010 Committee (L-R) Andrew Day, Media & Liaison, Ben Scoble, Fundraiser, Robert Day, Contest Director & Treasurer, Dave Morton, President, Robina Little, Secretary, John Van De Ven, Vice President, Sue Hayes, Fundraising Manager, & Jennifer Pettit, Fundraiser.

At a delegates meeting held immediately following the AGM the following decisions were made:

  • There will be a family fun day at Melville's Caves on Sunday 24th January, kicking off at 11.00am.  The Association will provide meat and salads and the drinks leftover from the Fossicker's Cup will be available.

  • The second hand dart boards used at the Fossicker's Cup will be for sale at $30.00 each.  Hotels and clubs will be given first option as there are only ten available.

  • The Association will purchase Stubby holders to sell to members and to any players and spectators at various events.

  • The www.loddondarts.com domain name is to be renewed.

First Meeting in 2010

The next delegates meeting will be held on Tuesday 12th January 2010 at the Wedderburn Hotel starting at 7.30 pm.  All members and any interested people are urged to attend.  At least one member of each competing team must attend.  Team sheets have to be lodged at this meeting and the $60.00 nomination fee must be paid also.

Have a Safe Christmas and a Prosperous New Year

On behalf of the Committee, I wish all dart players and readers a safe and happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.  Good luck to all in 2010.
